Wendy Bylsma came to look at the cats at Best Friends Pet Adoption Center with her two young kids. Bylsma likes to expose them to that kind of environment because they don’t have any cats at home, so she wants them to have a chance to spend time with the kittens.
Having kids spend time with animals at such a young age is a great way to teach them about responsibility and compassion.
When the Bylsma’s got there, they weren’t expected to adopt any cats, just spend time with them. But when Wendy met one of the little kittens there, she fell head over heels in love with her. So Wendy asked the workers about her story to learn more about her.
It turns out that this sweet little kitten, named Apple, had feline leukemia, which could mean a shorter lifespan. Because of this, it had been hard for Apple to find a home because no one wanted to adopt a kitten who wasn’t suspected to live as long as the other cats there.
Both Wendy and her husband teared up after hearing that, and they knew right away that they had to give this little kitten a forever home. So they decided to adopt her!
Because of her feline leukemia and them not knowing how long she’s going to live for, Wendy and her husband sat down with their kids to explain to them what might happen and how they just need to love her no matter how long or short her life is.
It’s unknown how long Apple will live, but what we do know is that she will be getting showered with love for the rest of her days.
