Bear, a 15-year-old black lab mix, spent all of his life chained to a doghouse outside a Long Island, New York home. A concerned neighbor called Guardians of Rescue for help. Volunteers showed up at the house where the senior dog was tied up, and they immediately cut him off the chain for the first time in over a decade.
He was medically examined, treated, and groomed, before being sent to Save-A-Pet shelter. His story was talked about on the news all across the country, and hundreds of adoption applications came pouring in.
Bear has since been adopted and is living with the lucky person who was chosen to give him his second chance. He now lives in Selden, New York, with his new mom, Kerrie Rank, who had just lost her beloved lab Zach a year earlier at the same age that Bear is now. Being a senior dog, Bear has that very reserved, calm persona about him, just like her last dog. Bear is used to being tied up with nowhere to go, but now he can roam around his new house as he pleases. He has a warm bed to sleep in, and best of all, someone who will love him for the rest of his days.
