6-Year-Old Nonverbal Boy Finds An Everlasting Friendship With A Deaf Shelter Dog

Six-year-old Connor Guillet is nonverbal, but he has learned to communicate with sign language. His mother, Brandi, adopted him at birth knowing he had a genetic disorder. Now that he’s older, Brandi really wanted Connor to have a friend that he could play with.

She decided to attend an event for Boxer dogs that were up for adoption. That’s where she met Ellie, a three-year-old Boxer who is deaf. Once she learned that Ellie understood sign language, she knew it was meant to be!

She knew that Ellie would make the perfect friend for her son, so she adopted Ellie and brought her home. Her first meeting with Connor went even better than expected. The two of them got along instantly, and now they are inseparable! Ellie is such a great companion for Connor, and the two of them enjoy playing together and cuddling up on the couch for a cozy nap.

“The most beautiful part of this adoption is my son and his dog can actually talk to each other!” Brandi said. “I highly encourage adoption of deaf dogs. She is such a perfect addition to our family. We have been blessed with Ellie.”
