A Pit bull pup was found abandoned on someone’s porch in Georgia after Hurricane Irma swept through the state.
The dog, now named Duncan, was covered in scars and open wounds when he was found, and is believed to have been attacked by other dogs. Whether Duncan would have defended himself or not, he has a big overbite, which would prevent him from biting his attackers back.
Although he was in rough shape when he was found, he is now at LifeLine Animal Project, a shelter in Atlanta, starting his healing process. The staff there has helped him mend, one hug at a time.
Sarah Rosenberg, a manager at the shelter, was greeted by a tail-wagging Duncan when she opened his kennel. She gave him a big hug and held him for a long time. Duncan rested his head on her shoulder and was so happy to finally feel safe.
“One look at his chewed-up face and I knew he had been through a living hell, but his eyes were soft and warm and invited me to hold him,” Rosenberg told The Dodo. “I opened his kennel, and he melted into my arms.”
The staff did such an amazing job taking care of Duncan and helping to nurse him back to health. The exact details of his past are unknown, but what we do know is that Duncan still has so much love to give; and of course he deserves endless love in return!
“To be somewhere he could just lie down and sleep and not be afraid that something would happen must have been a relief,” Rosenberg told Inside Edition. “I feel like he has been on a journey and whatever he had seen he was tired from it.”
Luckily, it didn’t take long for Duncan to find his forever home! A family saw his adorable face and fell in love with him right away! I mean, do you blame them? Duncan is such a mush and is affectionate for a dog who has had such a rough life.
Now Duncan will live in a family home, where he will spend his nights sleeping in a warm, cozy bed and will spend his days playing and giving lots of hugs and kisses to his new humans. We are so happy that this sweet boy got the happy ending that he deserves!
