This cat, later named Granny, was living in the basement of an apartment building in New York after her owners abandoned her there 20 years ago.
The super of the building had been feeding her ever since, but she was cooped up in that cellar and hadn’t seen daylight in two decades.
Although she was being somewhat taken care of, she was still lacking comfort, love, and a forever home. Thankfully, she was finally rescued.
A woman named Anita Diamantopoulou found out about Granny after she moved into the building a few months ago. She went down to the basement to visit her; she brought her food, but all Granny wanted was to be pet. She wanted the attention and affection that she so badly craved for so long.
In that moment, Diamantopoulou knew she had to get Granny out of there. She was living in total darkness, and her bed that she had been sleeping on was extremely filthy.
She put her into a carrier and brought her to the vet to be examined. Unfortunately, Diamantopoulou couldn’t keep Granny, but her friend was able to adopt her!
The vet confirmed Granny’s old age, and she has a tumor that needs to be removed, but she’s expected to be fine once that is taken care of.
The first day she was in her new home, she was very nervous, and rightfully so. It had been the first time in 20 years that she was in a new environment. Slowly but surely Granny began to break out of her shell and has since adapted well to her new surroundings.
She loves her new mom and is constantly rubbing up against her, asking for head rubs. She loves getting brushed and is thoroughly enjoying all of the new-found attention.
Soon she is undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, so that she can live out her golden years happy and healthy. Granny may be old, but it’s never too late for a second chance; and thankfully she got just that!
There are many senior cats like Granny who are stuck in shelters awaiting their forever homes. Consider adopting today!
