A kitten, named Chicky, was found as a stray and brought to Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center. He was very tiny, but thankfully, very healthy.
That same day, a puppy was brought to the same shelter, but wasn’t in good shape. The man who dropped him off was in tears because he said she was dying and needed help.
The puppy, later named Nugget, was unconscious, and her glucose levels and body temperature were too low to register. They gave her fluids and treatment, but it wasn’t until hours later when she finally started to open her eyes and lift her head.
Someone from the shelter staff brought Nugget home for the night to keep a close eye on her. Although she was improving, she still needed constant affection and attention. Just like a newborn baby, she cried nonstop unless she was being held.
They knew that the attention she demanded was not possible to get in a busy shelter. Meanwhile, Chicky the kitten was lonely in her cage. That’s when they came up with the idea to introduce the kitten and puppy to each other.
They fell in love with each other instantly. As soon as they were put next to each other, they started nuzzling each other and playing. They’ve been inseparable ever since!
The shelter’s vet, Leti Hansen, has been fostering the two of them and says they are the best of friends.
