It’s hard to tell what this animal is at first glance, but underneath all of the tangled and matted fur, he’s a beautiful sheepdog. When his owner, Gore Zhdanov passed away, he was taken in by relatives.
Sadly, he was neglected for an entire year. He was given food and water, and had access to the balcony so he didn’t make a mess in the house, but other than that, he was uncared for.
Eventually, animal workers were called. When they arrived to get the dog, they couldn’t believe their eyes. The dog was covered in giant clumps of hair, encrusted with feces and soaked in urine. He had so many mats that he could barely move or breathe.
Six people and three hours later, they were finally able to remove all of the matted fur, which filled up four 100-liter garbage bags.
Once the fur was shaved off, they were able to see that he was covered with abscesses and sores. Rescuers named him Cocos and got him immediate medical attention.
Elena Rivvo, a local expert in bobtail dogs, has adopted Cocos and has given him a forever home. She is feeding him a special diet of vitamins to help him regain his strength.
Cocos is making a full recovery and is extremely happy in his new home!
