From almost the moment Nubby was born, a veterinarian recommended he be euthanized.
That’s because Nubby was born without his front legs. And although his mother didn’t deny him, Nubby couldn’t nourish himself because he couldn’t get his way past the other puppies to eat.
However, for foster mom Lou Robinson and her husband, Mark, there was no way they were letting this bundle of joy go. Just look at how cute they are together!
After research, they learned Nubby would have to be bottle-fed at an incline to make sure the formula wouldn’t be inhaled into his lungs, causing pneumonia.
Unfortunately, a couple weeks after coming into the world, the three-week puppy had an “esophageal abnormality.” There was a pocket that formed “in his esophagus that was trapping his milk”, Robinson told the Dodo.
Nubby was given an IV filled with antibiotics and had to be put into an oxygen chamber.
“He was not giving up. He was fighting,” Robinson told the Dodo.
“And as long as he has a chance at quality of life, we will fight to give him that chance.”
And fighting is exactly what they did. Nubby eventually came home and it’s still uncertain the extent of his esophageal abnormalities.
Nubby’s road to recovery will be a long one, but no one is giving up!
