When outside his apartment building, Opie, an adorable little black dog, stumbled upon an interesting site. Hidden under a long in the field behind his home, Opie found a 2-day-old kitten. The kitten hadn’t even opened his eyes for the first time, yet he was covered in maggots and abandoned by his mother. Opie, the kind and compassionate pooch that he is, refused to leave the kitten’s side and instead, he waited for help to come to him.
When Opie’s owner found the duo, she immediately took action. She took the kitten (whom she later named Roscoe), gave him a bath, and took him to an emergency vet. After Roscoe’s vet visit he started the long process of recovery. Roscoe’s recovery wasn’t easy. He had been abandoned at such a young age that he couldn’t even feed himself. However, his new human mom, Opie’s owner, was not deterred. She diligently fed him with the use of syringes and even created a nesting area for him to live in until he gained the strength to interact with the other animals.
After about 10 days into his recovery, Roscoe opened his eyes for the first time! It took 2 weeks for Roscoe to be able to keep both eyes open. And a week after that he could finally see! At 3-weeks-old, Roscoe started growing stronger, he was off syringes and onto being bottle-fed. With his health increasing, Roscoe began interacting more with Opie and his other new siblings. And at just 4-weeks-old, Roscoe was finally healthy and acting like the mischievous little kitten he ought to be. It is all thanks to his unlikely hero, now brother, Opie!
