This tiny adorable doxie chihuahua mix, now named Piglet, was rescued from a horrible hoarding situation in Georgia, along with his mother and three litter mates. The situation made him develop bad anxiety. He was always in hiding places and didn’t like to be around people.
He was also rejected by his mom, so the staff at Colbert Veterinary Rescue Services bottle-fed him for a few weeks. Two of his three litter mates, including him, were affected with hearing and vision deficits as a result of irresponsibly breeding two dapple patterned dogs.
This past March, he went to live in a foster home in Connecticut. Although he is blind, he soon realized that he is able to see big dark objects in front of him, which gave him a new-found confidence.
In his foster home, he was able to quickly learn his way around. He was potty-trained, crate-trained, and ate his meals all on his own. He still has anxiety when left alone, but he has two adorable doggy siblings to keep him company. The three of them get along great and enjoy going for walks, playing and napping together.
You would never guess just by looking at him that he can’t see or hear. He’s just like any other puppy – feisty, playful, and energetic. Besides being with his doggy siblings, he also loves to chew shoes, run around in the backyard, and go for walks in the neighborhood.
“Piglet is a survivor on a mission to educate the public about the consequences of double dapple breeding, backyard breeding, and puppy mills, as well as to encourage adoption of special needs animals,” his Facebook page states. “Piglet is an inspiration to all who have met him both in person as well as through social media.”
But Piglet’s life got a whole lot better when his foster family decided to adopt him! They fell in love with everything he was and couldn’t resist giving him a forever home!
Piglet continues to suffer with separation anxiety when he finds himself alone, but his humans spend as much time with him as possible. When his humans aren’t home, his doggy siblings help comfort him. His family loves him to pieces and he loves them right back.
Piglet’s humans hope that his story not only encourages others to adopt a rescue dog, but also inspires them to adopt specifically special needs animals who need extra love and care!
