Arthur and Olivia were born into a world of darkness and didn’t know anything else. They entered the world in Flanders, a region of Belgium notorious for its vast factory farming operations.
The sows are kept in small pens that leave them no room to turn around. Last month, a rescue team from Animal Rights Europe (ARE) visited one of those farms and were shocked at what they saw. More than 500 sows lived there, and their sole purpose in life was to give birth to piglets over and over.
