Last week, more than 300 dogs were being kept in a truck on its way to the Jilin province, where China’s second largest dog meat market is located. For more than ten hours, these poor dogs—many of which were stolen pets—sat in these small cages in the sweltering eat without food or water.
Thankfully, animal advocates stepped in and managed to track down the truck, alert authorities, and finally rescue each and every one of those dogs.
When the truck was spotted on the road, Chinese animal advocates heard about it through WeChat, a texting and calling app. They made sure to keep up with the truck until police officers and advocates from China Animal Protection Power (CAPP) were able to stop it.
One of the dogs wound up being pregnant and gave birth to four healthy puppies right as she was rescued! So it turns out they saved more dogs than they suspected! The mama and her pups are now safe and are receiving top notch medical care.
Not only was that dog pregnant, but three others were too! They are all at animal hospitals with their puppies. All of the rescued dogs are being accepted into different facilities. They are all getting the proper medical care, and once they are healthy enough, they will be available for adoption.
