The Newton Abbot fire department is always prepared to fight all types of blazes. However, their newest piece of equipment has already saved some lives. These adorable sheepdog puppies owe their lives to emergency responders and their newly donated pet oxygen masks.
The tiny lifesaving devices are specially designed to fit the small faces of animals, such as these puppies. Fitting perfectly around their snouts, the mask delivers pure oxygen to the animal.
The rescue all started when the station got a call of a barn fire. Upon arriving, the blaze had already caused extensive damage, so the firefighters went into the building to see if there were any survivors.
They stumbled upon a litter of two-day old puppies struggling to survive in the smoke-filled air. Immediately, the puppies were evacuated from the barn and began receiving the medical care they needed.
Thankfully the station had just received these pet oxygen masks kits from local animal rescue group, Smokey Paws. The group decided to donate them to the station after receiving them from the popular pet supply company, KONG.
“We have only had this vital kit for a few weeks and it’s paid off already, and hopefully will save many more loved pets in the future,” the station wrote on its Facebook page.
These pictures show how desperate the situation was and how fortunate the firefighters were to be able to save these puppies.
While two of the puppies lost their lives in the blaze, two of the puppies were able to be saved. They are currently being held at a local veterinarian office and are expected to make a full recovery. However, the fire department said all of the puppies would of unfortunately died in the fire if they would not of had the generous donation of pet oxygen masks.
