The Kildare Animal Foundation Wildlife Unit in Ireland is sharing the story of a unique friendship between two of their newest rescued animals. According to The Dodo, it all started when the facility was brought an abandoned baby rabbit. It was so young that the umbilical cord was still attached to its body. As the tiny animal fought for its life, the organization was called on to take in another rescue, this time it was a injured baby pigeon.
“We received a call from a lady who had found a pigeon’s nest on the ground,” Kildare wrote. “In it was a newly hatched chick and an unhatched egg. Sadly, the egg was cold and no longer viable, but the little chick appeared to be unharmed from the fall.”
Both of the baby animals needed serious medical care and most importantly be placed in an incubator. There was just one problem, the facility only had one. So, they put the animals together and the unthinkable happened.
The duo began to bond and use each other for comfort. They each began to grow stronger thanks to the other’s support. The staff says that one day the animals will be released back into the wild, but for now they are simply enjoying each other’s company.
