Last week, a nine-year-old boy named Mauco Abeiro was outside playing with his little brother near their home in Guaymallen, Argentina, when he saw an injured stray dog living on the streets.
Instead of leaving the poor pup there, Mauco decided to carry the dog all the way back to his house. Mauco’s mother explained to him that they are in a very bad economic situation and would not be able to afford treatment for the dog.
So, one day Mauco got home from school and told his mother that he was going to sell his skateboard, which is one of his favorite toys, so that he could gather the money to take the dog to the vet.
He then put an ad out on his mother’s Facebook that follows:
“Hi I’m Mauco, Laura’s son. She lent me her Facebook because I don’t have one. Look at this puppy. I found him in the street. He is sick and has a broken leg. I fed him and gave him a bath, but he needs treatment. I’m selling my skateboard to take him to the vet. If anyone is interested in the skateboard, leave your number here so my mom can call you. Thank you, Mauco.”
Mauco just wanted someone to buy his skateboard, but what happened was far greater than he ever imagined. His Facebook post wound up going viral, and people from all over the world were donating money to help save the pup.
Not only did Mauco get to keep his skateboard, but he got to keep the dog too! The dog, who Mauco has since named Rocco, is now part of their family. He’s recovering from his injury, but now he has a best friend to help him get through it.
“Mauco is very happy,” Laura, Mauco’s mom, told The Dodo. “Things have not been easy for our family lately, but he never lost his love for animals.”
