Sometimes friendships are forged in even the most tragic of situations, like the story of Scooby and Stephanie. These two dogs had spent most of their lives together living together in a rundown shelter in Israel. Their lives changed forever when an animal rescue worker visited the shelter to adopt an animal. When Danielle Eden, founder of Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary, discovered the conditions the 250 animals were living in, she knew she couldn’t leave them.
Instead of adopting just one animal like planned, Eden bought the entire shelter. Her organization began working to find all of the neglected animals homes. But, there were two dogs that refused to be separated. Scooby and Stephanie refused to leave each other’s side and Eden knew they couldn’t be sent to different homes. One of Eden’s business partners claims she knows why.
“Whenever we separate them — whether one is getting groomed, or seeing the vet — they’re just devastated,” Clare Forndran, of Dog Tales, tells The Dodo. “The one that’s left in the room will start howling. We think that Stephanie is Snoopy’s mom. She’s a few years older than him and when we first found them, she was very protective of him.”
Scooby and Stephanie are up for adoption with one caveat: they must be kept together. The two dogs are still eagerly awaiting their forever home.
“We have them in the very first room that visitors see in our shelter,” Forndran explains. “Just right at the front. Specifically, because we’re trying to highlight them and get some attention for them.”
Unfortunately, Forndran says due to their age, there hasn’t been much interest in them. Stephanie is 11 years old and Scooby appears to be about 9.
