Marie Alexander knew that when she rescued a 9-year-old chihuahua from the shelter, she was saving its life. She had no idea that the dog would one day repay the favor by saving hers.
The 92-year-old woman named her new dog, Sassy and the two became inseparable. Sassy followed Alexander everywhere, especially on their daily walks to check the mail. One day while on their way to check the mail, Alexander tripped and fell. Hidden behind the bushes and too injured to get up on her own, Alexander was worried that she would not be able to get help. However, Sassy knew exactly what to do.
The little dog began barking, which was unusual for the pet that rarely made a noise. For five straight hours, the loyal dog barked at every passing car and person trying to get help. Finally, two people walking by heard the dog and went to see why it was so upset.
Sassy led them right to Alexander. She was hospitalized for severe dehydration, but made a full recovery thanks to her loyal pet’s action.
The duo’s amazing story was featured by local media outlets. Check out the footage below from ABC Action News.
