A dog named Smokey was brought to Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center in Ohio on Valentine’s Day after his family lost their home due to a fire. He didn’t adapt well to his new surroundings, especially since shelters can be loud and scary to some dogs, and he grew extremely depressed.
The one thing that kept him feeling safe and comforted was his elephant stuffed animal. He always had it with him, and it was very important that whichever lucky family got to adopt Smokey in the future, his elephant must go with him. The information tag in the shelter read: “Keep my elephant with me.”
Smokey was clearly very scared at the shelter and would constantly growl. Because of this, the shelter didn’t want to put Smokey up for adoption to the public just yet. They thought it would be better for him if he was sent to a foster home where he could be in a house setting to reduce his stress.
When volunteers from I Have A Dream Rescue Organization were at the shelter looking at another dog, they saw Smokey and his elephant and fell in love.
The organization then agreed to take Smokey in for now and will take care of him until his former family will be able to take him back. If not, he will be able to stay there as long as possible until he finds a forever home. With his elephant, of course!
Thankfully, Smokey is feeling less stressed and has regained his beautiful smile!
